Investors Assess Nvidia Results, Most of Asia Down



Asia-Pacific markets mostly fell on Thursday, with tech stocks dragging South Korean and Taiwanese indexes after chipmaker Nvidia reported its second-quarter results.

The Nikkei 225 index slid 9.23 points to 38,362.53.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index regained 93.87 points, or 0.5%, to 17,786.32.

South Korean chip heavyweight SK Hynix plunged 5.35%, while Samsung Electronics fell more than 3%, dragging the Kospi down 1.02%, leading losses in Asia.

The Taiwan Weighted Index lost 0.75% to 22,201.85. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company shares shed 2.18%, while Hon Hai Precision Industry — known internationally as Foxconn — dropped 2.4%.

In other markets

In Shanghai, the CSI 300 slipped 8.82 points, or 0.3%, to 3,277.68

In Taiwan, the Taiex index dumped 168.61 points, or 0.8%, to 22,201.85.

In Singapore, the Straits Times Index revived 13.44 points, or 0.4%, to 3,404.47.

In Korea, the Kospi index dropped 27.55 points, or 1%, to 2,662.28.

In New Zealand, the NZX 50 lost 116.99 points, or 0.9%, to 12,353.61.

In Australia, the ASX 200 fell 26.31 points, or 0.3%, to 8,045.13.
